Environment TOBAGO (ET) is a national, environmental, not for profit, non-governmental, volunteer and membership organization. Established in 1996 and committed to the protection and restoration of Tobago's fragile environment. We are a pro-active advocacy group that campaigns against negative environmental activities throughout Tobago. The organization is comprised of an elected non-paid board of directors, two members of paid staff and over three hundred members and volunteers. Our mission statement: "Environment TOBAGO conserves Tobago's natural and living resources and advances the knowledge and understanding of such resources, their wise and sustainable use, and their essential relationship to human health and the quality of life." What we do: Education ranks highly on our agenda. Outreach programmes include a travelling eco-classroom( exhibitions, audio-visual presentations, and activities), public exhibitions. Secondary school CXC presentations for Business and Chemistry( covering topics such as Environmental Economics, solid waste and water pollution, climate change, ethics and valuation), primary schools biodiversity modules and teacher training environmental education. Another component of our work involves liaising with the government and other organisations on matters affecting the environment, e.g. policy and law strengthening, solid waste disposal issues and methods; the implementation and enforcement of marine and terrestrial conservation laws. We offer a service to direct clients toward effective Consultations in the EIA process. Many of us are Honorary Game Wardens. We work with the NGO Buccoo Reef Trust and SOS Save Our Sea turtles. We spread the conservation word through our weekly Environmental Column in the Tobago News and via our quarterly newsletter, (now online) as well as through other publications. Environment TOBAGO produces a complete report and audited accounts at the end of each financial year. Copies of these are located at ET's office and are available for viewing by the general public on request. The Board of Directors meets once monthly and elections take place on a bi-annual basis.
