The Tobago community, whose prospects are hinged on keeping its natural spaces in good order, would do well to look at every opportunity to ensure wise use of the assets required for both Tourism and Quality of Life. Even its ‘simply’ taking care of the garbage.
Working with waste doesn’t sound attractive - at first glance. But what if it could be monetised - Leveraged into the Tobago value chain? The end result will provide income, jobs and in the bigger picture, a better living environment. Lets dig into the possibilities:
Managing our waste-stream does require the public to exercise responsibility, which we have spoken of here, but at the other end of the scale we do need to maintain an ‘end of road’ facility - which may be either a high heat pyrolysis plant or a gasifier. Waste pyrolysis is not an option for Tobago given municipal solid waste (<35 tonnes) generation is not enough to keep a kiln burning 24/7. Making MSW gasification the next best choice.
